Anniversary #8

Flippy and I have been together so long that I have to stop and do math to figure out which number of anniversary we’re having.  Once we’d surpassed the longevity of our relationships with other people, I think the number didn’t matter so much anymore, or perhaps I’m just scatter-brained.  In any case, my fingers and toes tell me that today is number 8 for us, so hey, yay us!  That’s eight wonderful years of threatening to undermine the legitimacy of heterosexual marriage by being so good at our relationship that we don’t need a piece of paper to tell us that we’re a couple.  Still, the piece of paper would be nice, but at the rate things are going backwards down here, I don’t think I’ll see gay marriage in the United States in my lifetime.  That’s what Canada will be for—gay marriage, medical marijuana, and Coffee Crisp.  Flippy and I plan to spend the day at the chiropractor’s office (nothing says love like, “I’ll sit in the waiting room and read while you’re adjusted"), and then we’ll stop by Pickup Stix restaurant for some of their Dan Dan noodles, and perhaps those little apple-cinnamon spring rolls for dessert.  And hockey—a bloody 4 minute major is also a great way to celebrate (especially when Fantasy Hockey nets you half a point for every penalty minute!).  So, Happy Anniversary, Flippy… we’re broke as usual, but I still love you just as much as ever smile

This isn’t related to the mushiness above, but I wanted to point out that I’ve added “Blogrolling” to my blog, and it’s supposed to keep my links in order and tell me when my favourite blogs update.  Right now I’m still learning how to format the links properly so it’s a little bit jumbled, but we’ll see how it goes.  I hope they’ve got a good server and the links will load efficiently, but only time will tell.  I’ll work on that formatting over the next couple of days.

One last thing… I totally forgot to post the wonderful news about the Las Vegas city council’s decison to tighten the county’s rules for pet ownership.  The decision came down on November 9th, and it forces pet owners to spay or neuter their pets, or pay a fine.  Owners who don’t want to spay or neuter must obtain a “pet fancier’s” permit.  It’s not a perfect law, because enforcement will be based on the honour system, but it means that pets who are picked up by animal control will most likely be spayed/neutered, and really, those are the ones most likely to cause the most problems anyway.  I was so happy to hear that this regulation has been passed, because I think it’s an important attitude change, if nothing else.

  1. Congrats on 8 years!  It sounds like you had a nice dinner to celebrate.  smile

When you are finally able to travel back home, you will have to pick up some Coffee Crisp, some of that flavoured marijuana spray, a can of Tim Hortons coffee, and get married!  What a trip it will be!  cheese

I still can not believe that people:

    1.  Let their pets run wild.
    2.  Do not spay and neuter.

Animal control issues are never animal issues.  They are idiot owner issues.

  2. Happy belated anniversary!  Sorry that our country does not legally recognize your relationship.  Someday people will look back at this age and think, “What was the big deal?”

  3. Happy 8th smile I was supposed to greet you in my last email but forgot because of the nagging pain.  Rosella slapped my achey butt so I screamed.  She thought it was funny.  Why I signed up for aikido again, I’ll never know.
