Bissell SpotBot

I spotted this online, and developed a crush:

It’s a Bissell SpotBot, and I dream of having one to clean up dog vomit, dog pee, cat vomit… and spilled red wine from all the garden parties we host.  Does anyone have one, and can you report back on how well it works?  I do a fine job of stain removal with OxyClean, towels, and elbow grease, but I do love a handy gadget.

  1. I’ve been eyeing it, too, for just those sorts of reasons. As we have a Little Green Machine that does a fairly good job, though, can’t really justify it.

    Pity.

  2. Sure you can buy it!  Just say you’re doing it for little ol’ me.

  3. I, too, have been eyeing the Spot Bot. I’m curious about your reader responses.

  4. I’ve pondered it as well, but currently we’re using Spot Shot which is surprisingly good at getting up stains (even old ones).  I have a monstrous Hoover carpet cleaner from the old days that’s so filthy itself I don’t think it has a chance of doing anything other than dumping more dirt into a carpet (there’s only so much you can clean the innerds of the older models [about 15 y/o, I think]).  Has anyone tried any of the new full sized carpet steamers, and do they work?  I like the wheels and scrub brush models.

  5. Print, we’ve had a full-sized Bissell carpet steamer/cleaner since about 1999.  We were renting an apartment and had four dogs, so we did everything we could to make sure we got our damage deposit back!  The cleaner did a decent job, although I always wished it was capable of actually heating the water (you had to just fill it with hot water if you wanted to use hot water).  The scrubbing brushes worked well, and it was no more difficult to use than an upright vacuum cleaner.  Sometimes it would leave the carpet fairly damp, and it could take a full day to dry, but there was never a doubt that the carpet was cleaner than when we started.  It’s such a pain to pull out and use now, though, especially when we want to clean just one small spot.

I just took a look at Amazon to see what’s available these days, and they’ve certainly come down in price from what we paid eight years ago.  Bissell has a “Bissell 9400 ProHeat” for about $265 that has good reviews, and it can heat up water.  I knew it would happen one day!  I think it’s definitely a worthwhile purchase if you’ve got a lot of carpeting to keep clean, and if you want to extend the life of your carpet, too.
