Chelsea’s salute to Greenpeace
Never one to stand idly by when there’s an urgent social or environmental issue to conquer, Chelsea tries to draw attention to the plight of beached whales.

I’d like to add that I don’t advocate having overweight pets, but I just can’t seem to feed Chelsea a small enough amount to slim her down. The three older cats, Chelsea, Jackson, and Derek, are all fed the equivalent of a third of a cup of kibble and a sixth of a small can of wet food daily, yet both Chelsea and Derek are completely porky. I need to get them to start cross-training or something.
By the way, despite being cursed with an enormous girth, Chelsea is saddled with the embarrassment of having a tiny head:

She’ll happily come to your Superbowl party, but you’d better have at least three kinds of dip.
And here I thought Toby was “fat”. Apparently he’s just normal. But the way he begs for snacks you’d think we were starving him!
I give him the snacks, but play with him to prevent fattening.
(It’s so hard without a smaller cat, because Toby wants to chase me around and wrestle like he did with Satchel. It looks easy, but it’s exhausting.)
Posted by celine on 02/04 at 09:52 AMPerhaps your cat has a underactive thyroid? If you can’t feed her little enough, there’s likely something else going on - poor baby :(
Posted by Laura Bennett on 02/04 at 08:47 PMChelsea has very regular vet checkups (at least twice a year) because of her past liver problems, and a thyroid problem has never come up. However, it’s something I can mention at our next visit just to make sure. I suffer from hypothyroidism myself, but it’s nice that it’s relatively simple and inexpensive to treat.
I think Chelsea suffers from being very sedentary, which is a personality trait she’s had since we got her last year. I occasionally suffer from it myself :)

She may be porky.. but she sure is pretty!Posted by Simply Coll on 02/05 at 04:23 PMThat beached whale comment was hysterical! (And I’m sure you’ve tried it but I have to ask - light food? Diet food?)
Oh, still hysterical!

Posted by Lioness on 02/10 at 09:26 AMHello, Lioness! All our feline senior citizens are on a veterinary diet, Urinary SO. That’s because one of the cats, Derek, gets crystals in his urine, and it’s hard for us to keep the cats from eating each other’s food. So, with the vet’s approval, we just feed all three elder cats Urinary SO. Not a lot, either… maybe a third of a cup of kibble, and a sixth of a can of wet food daily. They’re all just very sedentary, despite a house full of tall cat trees for them to climb. If there isn’t food waiting for them somewhere, they’re content to spend their days just looking out the window.
