Clean paw of health!

The histopathology report came back on Dante’s toe lump, and he was given a clean bill of health.  The report merely described the tissue as “irritated”, which fits with his previous history of allergic reactions.  The vet said that if the lump returns, we’ll just treat it with steroids, but I’m still glad we had it removed.  For one thing, an ulcerated, recurring lump just screamed “bad news” and worried me, and it also was quite uncomfortable for Dante.  Keeping him on steroids long-term wouldn’t have been a great solution either, so I think surgery was a good choice.  The toe continues to heal really well and he’s not bothering with it at all, so our next step will just be stitch removal next Monday.

We’ll hope for similarly good results when Eli and Phoenix go to the veterinary ophthalmologist on Friday.  For Eli it’s just a checkup to make sure her pannus hasn’t worsened, but for Phoenix it will be a pre-surgical appointment to finally treat her mild entropion and her eyelid cyst.  The poor dog has suffered with undiagnosed entropion for years, and I hope finally getting it treated will give her some eye relief.  The cyst is a relatively new development, but I doubt it’s comfortable, either.  She’s basically blind in one eye and has very little vision in the other, but I’m sure she’ll still feel relief when all the things scratching the surface of her eyeball are removed!

On a totally different topic, and in the interests of full-disclosure, I’ve started keeping another blog called Tired Girls to write about my fibromyalgia.  It’s a grumpy, whiny blog, with no kitten photos, but if you’re interested in the subject of FMS, please come and visit.  I’d won’t update it quite as often as I update here because frankly, I find dogs and cats more interesting than my achy joints.

  1. Yay Dante.. this is good news for sure.

I am hoping that things go as well for Eli and Phoenix.  I believe that the most important thing we can do for our animals is keeping them free of suffering.  About 4 years ago I had a sweet little old Lhasa who went completely blind related to cataracts.  At first I was devestated.. but quickly came to realize that she managed very well without her sight.  She then viewed the world through her sense of smell.  She lived for another year after that and did quite well.  I still miss her.

  3. Hmmm… not sure what the site access problem was, as Flippy and I didn’t notice it.  Perhaps a routing problem?

Thanks for the Mahjongg tips!  I’ve got a while to go before I try to make a tileset, but I’m thinking a set of kitten pictures would be cute :)
