Entrapment
Did you know that if you put a humane cat trap on your doorstep that cats will actually get trapped in it? It’s true! It seems that stray cats are in endless supply and just waiting to walk into some poor sucker’s cat trap (aka, my trap). On Monday night before I went to bed I did a quick peek out on the front porch and there in the trap was stray cat #2, who we affectionately dubbed “Stewie”. He’s a real cutie pie, as you can see from these photos:

I call the last photo, “Stewie dancing”, because if you use your imagination you could assume he was dancing the tango in my arms and not trying to draw blood. He ended up being yet another sweet, unneutered male cat, probably less than a year old, and terribly thin and dirty. He didn’t have any obvious illness, thank goodness, but you could count his ribs and he was in desperate need of a bath. In his condition he’d either been missing from his home for a long time or his owner didn’t care for him properly, so we took him down to The Animal Foundation on Tuesday. He’ll be held there for a few days so any owner he has can look for him, and if an owner doesn’t come forward he’ll be put up for adoption. He has a wonderfully gentle disposition and I know he’ll make a great pet for someone. We left our phone number so that we’ll be called if he’s ever in danger of being euthanized, and we also donated a big box of sheets and towels to the shelter. That’s something for everyone to remember—if you’ve got old sheets and towels you plan to discard, give them to your local animal shelter instead. The dogs and cats don’t care if your towels have holes in them :) We’ve still never caught the cat we originally set the trap for, so we’re taking a break from setting it out and just leaving some kibble on the porch instead. I hope the poor lost kitty eventually found a nice place to live, or that she eventually comes back to our house.
You have such a big heart!
I admire you for being a guardian angel to all of your neighbourhood strays. :)

And seriously, NO ONE deserves to wake up with cat poop on their arm.
Posted by Mudpuppy on 05/06 at 09:42 PMBetter your arm than my pillow. Perhaps we should lock him out tonight, for a poop-free evening.
