Grey Cup 2006

I’m somewhat peeved today that I’m forced to watch the 2006 Grey Cup championship game on pay-per-view.  It’s not even TV ppv, either, it’s on my computer, so I’ve been stuck here in my chair, glued to my monitor.  I’m often glued to my monitor, but it’s usually because I’m working, so now I feel mildly guilty at not working as well as peeved about having to pay!  Last year the game was broadcast on our local cable company’s peculiar “INHD” station (it broadcasts a mishmash of shows, as long as they’re in HD), but this year that station is showing a “Gram Parsons’ Tribute” show instead.  I scrolled through all 300+ digital cable channels on our TV, and I found billiards, horse racing, poker, college hockey, and even sailing, but not one snippet of Canadian football.  It makes me want to switch to satellite, it does.

Anyway, the game has been fun to watch.  We see so much American football that I really appreciate the wide-open, spacious feel of the Canadian game.  It seems a lot faster-paced than the NFL.  It’s nice to get a peek at chilly ol’ Winnipeg, too (waving at Coll)!

  1. Hi Leigh-Ann (nodding with tuqued head and waving with gloved hands).  I wasn’t at the game but did have the TV on the entire time.  Such an exciting day for Winnipeg.  And, believe it or not, it was a rather balmy day by Winnipeg standards. grin

  2. We’ve had satellite a couple years because we wanted BBC America and it wasn’t available on cable. We’re paying less for more channels. The feature we like best is the Guide, where you can browse what’s on the other channels without changing channels, get info on any show, and *gasp* do a SEARCH. We’re not big TV watchers, but we’ll never go back to cable. DSL for Internet.

  3. We do get BBC America on cable, although I always forget to watch.  If I could just find a way to stop time so I could watch all the TV that interests me, I’d be happy *and* well-informed!  The thing Flippy and I really want to do is order Canadian satellite TV, which you can do through certain companies which act as your Canadian billing address.  Then we’d get all the Canadian channels, including all the hockey, curling, and CFL my little heart desires.  It’s pricey though—about $80 per month just for the basics, not to mention about $500 to get started with a satellite decoder box and dish.  It will have to wait until we win the lottery.
