I broke my hoe
Ah, if you only had a nickel for everytime someone said “I broke my hoe” to you, you’d probably have one whole nickel. I did indeed absolutely decimate my fairly new hoe today, so I now know the difference between the $8 hoe and the $48 one. I did it while in the process of removing the sumac tree from the front yard and transplanting it to the backyard, and it would have been a fairly straight-forward task but the tree had grown enormous taproots that grew straight down from the trunk and just wouldn’t budge. With Matt’s help I was able to chop through them and pull the tree out, but I’m sure the tree is traumatized—it was the day Matt and I both realized we shouldn’t be surgeons. “That lung is getting in my way—could you just chop it off for me?” I know the tree will probably look a bit ragged for a while, but then it should settle in nicely, and it looks great in the backyard. If the landscapers ever decide to show up then we’ll have a nice front yard to match our nice backyard, and if they don’t show up, we’ll have a lot of dead grass with a big hole in the middle.
Did I complain about the price of stucco repair yesterday? I think I did. Here’s a photo of what I need patched, just so you can see how ridiculous the $1000 quote is:

Now for your weekly dose of cat and pet photos. Here’s one of Chelsea in every cat’s favourite toy, the brown paper bag. This is the cat who used to be terrified of us and would spend all day hiding:

I rarely get photos of the birds, but here’s a nice closeup of Blackjack. The resolution is so good you can see the little abrasion she’s got above her beak—she’s always getting a little scrape there when she takes a tumble in her cage:

And finally, a cute little picture of Phoenix and Cricket outside, waiting to run back into the house. I chopped a bit of Cricket’s head off, sorry:

And that was about the extent of my day. Tomorrow is yet another vet day for Cricket’s Adequan injection, and we’ll be picking up Sputnik (who Nancy has taken to calling, “Tie Domi” because of his scars). I guess we’ll be fostering him for a while? I don’t know. I don’t even know where to put him. In any case, I should have a photo of him by Thursday night.
Yay! Pictures!
Can’t wait to see this Sputnik. :)
