Kitty cocktail
I don’t know if this information is accurate, but the good folks at the North Shore Animal League offer this recipe as a way for you to earn your cat’s everlasting love and admiration (or maybe, just a little less indifference). Here’s a recipe for “Cantaloupe Cocktail”:
1/2 cup fresh, ripe cantaloupe, cut into small chunks
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 teaspoon honey, optional
catnip
Combine the cantaloupe with the yogurt. Drizzle the honey on top, if desired, and sprinkle with catnip.
Somebody please try it and let me know if your cat does indeed love it. I don’t have any cantaloupe in the house right now (or any plain yogurt, for that matter), but I’ll certainly add them to my shopping list. I think the secret ingredient might just be the catnip. Today I received two new Little Pink Sock catnip toys in the mail, and Frank was so enamoured of them that he was rubbing himself all over their plastic bag, before I even opened them. Catnip makes him silly
Awww how sweet!
We have been giving the pups vanilla ice cream as a treat. I know. I am a bad mama, but they sure love me for it! :cheese:
Posted by Expat on 07/29 at 07:01 PMI dunno—is it bad for them to have vanilla ice cream? You sound like a good Mom to me, although I prefer chocolate. Have you seen the “ice cream for dogs” that’s available? It’s in the freezer section of at least one of our local grocery stores.
We unfortunately don’t eat much vanilla ice cream around here, and Frank has decided that he’s obsessed with chocolate. I don’t give him any, of course, but if he just gets one whiff of chocolate anything he’s right in my face, begging for a bite. I swear I see him drooling whenever I walk in with a frappucchino.

Our JRT was the flower girl / ring bearer at our wedding. At the reception, we had chocolate Hershey kisses and mini chocolate bars on all of the tables. My husband stood up in full dress uniform and told the crowd not to give chocolate to the flower girl, no matter how hard she begs. It was pretty funny.
Have you tried the kitty cocktail yet? Also, do you know of a good place online to buy chew hooves in bulk?
Posted by Expat on 08/02 at 07:05 AMChew hooves in bulk… I’d definitely recommend www.jbpet.com. They’ve always got great prices on the basics, and we’ve never had problems with any orders. A 5 lb. box (about 40 hooves) is $25, and their shipping is reasonable. Doncha just love the smell of a freshly-chewed hoof?! :ahhh:
