Kuranda bed

I think I’ve written before about wanting to buy a couple of Kuranda dog beds for Eli and Dante (NOTE: the hyperlink I posted will give you discount on a Kuranda bed, up to 10%, but it applies only on Tuesdays).  Dante has slept in a crate his entire life , and he enjoys it, but I’d love to try to transition him out of the crate so that he doesn’t need to be “put to bed” every night.  I can’t leave his crate door open during the day because he’ll drag his crate mat outside and tear it up (I think we’re on crate mat number 4, at least, because that’s how many times I’ve forgotten to close the door).  I feel guilty making the dogs sleep on the hard floor during the day, though, and I think a Kuranda would be perfect for them.  Raised up off the floor, somewhat indestructible, and impossible to drag out through the doggie door—it has all the characteristics a guilty mom is looking for in a dog bed.  I’m so put off by the price, though… with shipping, I’m looking at about $100 each, and that’s if I just go with “XL” and not “2XL”.  Eli’s current bed is the size equivalent of a 2XL and she likes to stretch out, which is why I’m looking at the larger, Mastiff-appropriate sizes.  Has anyone reading this ever used a Kuranda bed, and do you like it?

    Our BC has been a crate sleeper his entire life as well.  Lately, he has been pulling his crate out and moving it about his bedroom.  He also pulls his bed out and starts chewing on it.  If we close the door to his crate so that he can not go into it, he barks and barks at it.  It is driving us crazy.

    The humane society here has similar beds to the one that you linked to.  I *think* that somebody made them though.  The frames are made out of PVC piping.  I was thinking that might be a good little project for us to try!  If I come across the plans for the bed, I will email them to you.

I think I might buy one genuine Kuranda bed next Tuesday—that link I posted (the link that doesn’t seem to work), will give you between a 5% and 10% discount on orders placed on Tuesdays.  So, I’ll order one XL (Dante likes to sleep curled into a tiny ball, so it should be large enough).  I’ll post photos if/when it arrives.
