Liz Phair!

For the fourth time in the past couple of years, Flippy and went to see Liz Phair in concert at the House of Blues.  I love Liz Phair [sigh].  Tonight’s concert was especially odd because very few tickets sold for it, so instead of sitting in our usual balcony seats (our choice as the view is so good), we were all put into the floor area seating on a first-come, first-served basis.  Because of Flippy’s back problems we chose aisle seats in the 5th row, and I don’t think we were more than 30 feet from the stage, which was raised up off the floor so no one could block our view.  It ended up being a fantastic show—a small, enthusiastic crowd, a great view, and Liz was in a good mood because it was the last night of her tour.  It was a “greatest hits” show which sort of surprised me, because I figured she’d be pushing songs from her new album, but I think she only sang three songs from it.  Otherwise, we got classics like, “Polyester Bride”, “Uncle Alvarez”, “Shitloads of Money”, “Fuck and Run”, and of course, “Supernova”.  I never get tired of hearing her sing “Supernova”, which I think might be the best girl rock song of all time.  If you’ve never seen Liz, it’s a lot of fun—good banter, unpredicability, fun lyrics, and her unexpected bonus of her voice getting better and stronger all the time.  I would love to meet her, and really, I have very little interest in meeting “celebrities” because I don’t have anything to say to them.  Liz, I think I could have a good conversation with.  Perhaps one day.  In the interim, here’s a terrible photo from our cell phone:
