Merry Christmas, everybody!
I didn’t even know that Stompin’ Tom Connors had a Christmas song until we heard it on Hockey Night in Canada yesterday. I loved the song, loved the hockey theme, and so I made a crude copy of the segment using the video feature on our digital camera. You can see the result on Flippy’s blog, as she’s got a link to it. Enjoy!
Now, what do *I* have to offer you? Well first, I’ve got a photo of Chelsea with our little Christmas tree. Last Christmas we were sad and completely cat-less, and this year the little beasts are swarming all over the place. I hope they’ll play in the wrapping paper like Sweet Pea used to… I have a feeling that might be something Chelsea’s interested in. We’re being good and opening our gifts in the morning, so I’ll have to report back.

For those of you not familiar with the special joys of a fiber optic Christmas tree, I took a little video for you. It still lacks a little something, but at least you’ll get the idea of just how corny and festive the trees are. I think Christmas is so overdone in so many ways that the fiber optic tree represents the best of excess—it’s like Christmas hyperbole. Enjoy my little video of our mini fiber optic Christmas tree.
We had a lovely but exhausting evening at Nancy’s parent’s house, with almost all her family present. One brother was present via telephone. In a salute to the meshing of Christmas and Hanukkah that we celebrate, we ate Chinese food, Greek dolmades, and Honeybaked ham. We also ate lots of cookies, cakes, and other assorted candy items. Then we opened a cornucopia of gifts, including some great books for me (that I’ll be reviewing here soon), DVD movies, gift certificates to PetSmart (yay!), and tickets to see “Mystere”. I saw Mystere once, back in 1997, and I loved it… I’m so excited that we’ll get to go again! The main gifts we gave out were TiVos, resulting in one family having two TiVos as we didn’t consult each other before we made our purchases. Oh well. We usually buy the family tickets for an “event”, and we all go to a baseball game or something similar, but this year there just weren’t many events to choose from so we decided on TiVos. So did someone else. Whoops! Oh, I opted to leave the kittens home, as the more I thought about taking them with us, the more tired I became. I fed them right before we left and immediately when we came home, and they’re doing great.
Nancy and I will be spending a quiet day at home tomorrow, watching football. For breakfast we’ll eat Sara Lee Pecan Coffeecake, one of my family’s traditions, and drinking coffee (although I forgot to roast fresh beans so I’m going to have to scrape around for some in the morning). I’ve got a duck thawing in the sink, and I’m going to make it with a soy/honey glaze, with simple sides of mashed potatoes and snap peas. For dessert, razzleberry pie. Yay! I have a great time at family get-togethers, but wow, I’m really looking forward to a quiet day at home, with no errands to run!
