More about L-lysine

I recently wrote about using L-lysine to treat/prevent outbreaks of the FHV-1 virus in cats.  I’d been using a powdered L-lysine supplement I’d bought on eBay, and while it was pretty good, it certainly wasn’t perfect.  The powder tended to clump, and it didn’t taste good—I tasted it.  It was bitter, and the cats didn’t always eat all their food when the supplement was mixed in.

I finally decided to spring for Viralys, an L-lysine supplement made specifically for cats.  I’d hoped it would be a better, higher quality product, and it is!  No clumping, the granules are very fine, and it comes with a measuring device so I don’t have to guess about how much to use.  Best of all, the grains are in a “palatable base”, so no more icky taste.  If you need to add L-lysine to your cat’s diet, do yourself a favour and just buy the Viralys from the get-go.

I think I’d mentioned that I’d tried the Viralys gel supplement already, but the cats didn’t like the maple flavour.  Maybe I’ll just eat it on ice cream or something.
