The kitties need new names

As per Helena’s suggestion, I’d like to try to come up with new names for the two foster cats (the formerly known as “Pinto”, and “Shiner").  I don’t mind the name Pinto, but maybe these guys do need a fresh start.  Have any ideas for names?  Pinto is a longhaired male, with large black and white patches.  Shiner is a longhaired grey male… he looks a lot like Greg, Spiderman’s brother.  They’re both pretty large, but not fat (that I noticed).  One of them is 12, and the other is 14, but I don’t know which is which.  Their shelter paperwork said Pinto was 12, and Shiner was 10, and I don’t know if Shiner’s age is just wrong, or if both cats’ ages are off by two years.  That only matters if you wanted to rename Shiner something like “Quattordici”.

If you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments!

  1. Do they need names that sound similar to the old ones? (I know some do and some don’t...Salem never responded to his old name (Houston), and we named him Salem ‘cause that’s the only thing he’d answer to.) If they don’t, what about Bilbo and Frodo (or maybe Gandalf for the gray one)? smile

  2. Maybe Shadow for Shiner.  It suits his colouring and isn’t too far off sound-wise.

I like Pinto as well.  You could expand his name to Pinto El Beanie-pants or something… Always makes it interesting when they call the cat’s name out in the vet waiting room.

  3. Shiner makes me fink of a black eye. Leigh-Ann, you are so good, taking these cats! They’re much better off wif you. I fink they were the husband’s cats - does that explain the weird woman’s reactions? Beans is weird.

How bout Pinto an Garbonzo? Bonzo for short!

And good luck to Greg an Spiderman! How’re his eyes?

  4. I love Garbanzo for Shiner.  Pinto (El Beaniepants) & Garbanzo would be awesome.

  5. Victor, sorry I’m late in replying to you.  I want to commend you on your skills of deduction: I do think these cats belonged to the husband, too.  He was in the background when I was talking to the woman on the phone, and the woman said that her husband “wasn’t speaking to her” about the cat issue.  I think the woman forced him to do something he didn’t want to do (not a nice way to treat a sick person).
