The litterbox

It’s a toilet!  It’s an amusement park!  It’s a dessert topping!  Bet you never knew a litterbox could be so much fun, eh?  All four kittens started to use the litterbox today (all by themselves, no encouragement needed), but they unfortunately do more in the box than just pee and poop.  First they taste a bit of the litter, then they do their business (complete with lots of digging), then they roll around on their backs and play with their toes.  It’s adorable but messy, so I hope the entertainment value soon wears off.  I still can’t get them interested in eating from a dish (not even if the dish has baby food in it), but they’re learning to play in the water dish and I think a couple of them have taken drinks from it.  Starting tonight I’ll be thickening up their bottle formula considerably and adding baby food to it, in an effort to transition them to eating on their own.  It’s so much fun to watch them play and wrestle between feedings, and they’re now really interested in the world around them.  They love it when the dogs go up to the bathroom door for a visit.  Missy Mae doesn’t like it much, but the kittens think it’s fabulous.

  2. She’s been upstairs a few times, but it doesn’t seem to make her happy.  All she does is move from her crate to a cat bed…and back.  She’s the most sedentary cat I’ve ever seen (and in the last year, I’ve seen a lot of cats!), so she’s gone back downstairs to hang out in the bathroom with the kittens.  It’s the happiest we’ve ever seen her.
