The New Year’s entry

I’d wanted to write this entry a couple of days ago, before the New Year, but a few roadblocks arose (i.e., kittens, and modem issues), so it didn’t get done.  If my New Year’s resolution had been to be more organized and less tardy, well, I would have already flunked it, so thank goodness I didn’t make any resolutions at all.  I didn’t even have time to do the “reflective and melancholy” New Year’s Eve thing, as I was so incredibly sleepy that I was just happy to know that soon I’d be able to go to bed!  We did our usual New Year’s “celebration”—we watched the fireworks from the Strip from the upstairs window—but we didn’t even eat the special snacks we’d bought for the evening as our eating schedule was all out of kilter and we didn’t have very big appetites.  I didn’t even want the sparkling Zinfandel I’d remembered to buy, but it will keep for another day.

As I’m taking time to reflect on 2005 now, I’d like to say that it was a pretty good year.  No pets died, unlike 2004, where we lost three of them.  We gained four new cats, had some veterinary adventures, and I’m finally getting to bottle-feed kittens, as I’ve always wanted to do.  I signed up for some online courses as I’d hoped, and we did some improvements to the house, like replacing our water-hogging front yard with desert landscaping.  I didn’t get to see any of my family in 2005, but Flippy’s parents finally moved permanently to Las Vegas.  Business wasn’t great for us, but life on the Internet hasn’t been particularly lucrative for the past couple of years, so hopefully we’ll continue to branch out this year.  All in all, I don’t think it was a particularly eventful year, but I’m not complaining.

One of the best things about 2006 was having this blog, as I got to know so many great new people, and I’ve been so educated from reading other people’s adventures and experiences.  Thank you to everyone on my blogroll for giving me lots of great reading every day of the week!

For 2006, my goals are to finish my online course and to finally get my Green Card (15 years in the making… it’s been a long wait).  I hope we’ll learn to make some money with our dye sublimation and sandblasting equipment (we’re taking classes for those in March), and I plan to kick the stock market’s butt with some good investments.  I hope that when 2006 draws to a close, Flippy’s back will be fixed, all our pets will still be with us, and that our bank account will be ample.  Money can’t buy happiness, but it sure can make life less stressful.
