My sinuses are 42 years old today
My sinus cavities (and the rest of me) are 42 years old today. Sadly, my sinuses feel every bit their age, as they moan and groan and struggle with the dragging virus I picked up on my travels. I bought my first “neti pot” today as a last resort, to try to clean out my nasal nooks and crannies, but the cleansing only made me feel worse. Maybe I used too much of the saline solution, I don’t know—I just know that I ended up with a sinus headache and an irritated, runny nose. This seems to be a very rare reaction, so I want to try again, but I hate the thought of dealing with all that discomfort if it doesn’t work out right. My sinuses may not be agreeable with the neti.
The virus started about two weeks ago with a sore throat, then moved to a bit of a dry cough and almost laryngitis, and now I’ve got a runny nose, bubbling ears, and swollen lymph nodes in my neck. I want it to go away so I can enjoy my free sushi from Todai today! If it could just leave me alone today, I’ll happily let it bother me on the 6th again—I’m nothing if not fair. I do hope I’ll be back to some more detailed blog entries soon, too.
Happy Birthday - and feel better soon!
Posted by Isabel on 01/05 at 05:37 AMHappy Birthday, and bummer about the virus.
Unsolicited advice about the neti pot: does the solution feel like swimming pool water? You may find that adding a little more salt will make it much more comfortable. It shouldn’t sting or irritate at all.

Don’t give up on the neti pot. My hubby has been doing it for a year, and it took me a year to get up the nerve. It really helps. It decongests better than any pill. You are trying when your sinuses are full and swollen. Keep it up, and you will be rewarded. Do it right before a steamy shower for great results.
Posted by vetmommy on 01/05 at 06:56 PMHappy belated birthday, Leigh-Ann. Get well soon.

Hippo Birdie Two Ewes,
Hippo Birdie Two Ewes,
Hippo Birdie Deer Leigh-Ann,
Hippo Birdie Two Ewes!
... and many more!!!!
BTW, Mom says try the sinus wash wif only half the powder an see if that helps. She finds that strong. She also found that switchin frum a decongestant to an antihistamine (out of despairation) mid-cold has werked wonders. Chronic Sinusitis ain’t fun.

Posted by von Krankipantzen on 01/09 at 10:53 PMNo way, your birthday is the 5th too? Mine is Jan. 5th, but I’m a year older. And I’m starting VA/VT school next week. I just found your blog today, but I’ll be back I’m sure.

And hope you were able to enjoy the day, Leigh-Ann… and have gotten better.
Actually, i’mhere with a purpose. Do you remember your question about the animal welfare/pet situation in Singapore?
I’ve still not managed to write a coherent thesis about it for you. But here’s 2 companion posts (with links) on our blog that may address a part of it if you’ve not given up waiting. i just hope they don’t add to the confusion =)
