The crazy spinning lady

I’m sure you’ve seen this as it’s been passed around the Internet, but which way does the curvaceous lady spin when you look at her?  She always spins clockwise for me, unless I do something concerning math (for example, checking stats to adjust my fantasy football lineup).  If I then immediately look at the image, it spins counter-clockwise.  As soon as I think to myself, “Cool, she’s spinning backwards!”, she immediately returns to spinning clockwise.  She’s such a tease.  Flippy says that the pivot point which determines the direction the image appears to move is the woman’s extended toe.  I have to assume this means most of the rest of the graphic is irrelevant, so I’d like to see the equivalent version of this as a hunky man with a swimmer’s body.  I may be gay, but I appreciate good art.

  1. That was fun. Mine starts clockwise, but with some work I can make it go counter-clockwise on demand. It’s easier when I either focus on the bottom foot or look above with my eyes unfocused.

    The left-brain right-brain thing is bunk, though. Here’s a blog entry by a neurologist that explains what we know.

  2. Mostly clockwise, but occasionally she switches to counter-clockwise for a few turns. Also, when I scrolled down so she was cut off at the waist, her legs switched direction on me more easily.

    Victor usually spins clockwise, then reverses, so he’s really doing small figure 8s. Sometimes, he just turns his head and not his body, pretending he did a spin.

  3. She spins counterclockwise for me no matter what. I squinted myself into a headache trying to get her to spin the other way.
