The horror just keeps coming: Problems now being reported with Iams dry food
Itchmo is reporting anecdotal evidence of dogs and cats becoming ill after eating Iams dry food. As he points out, this may just be coincidence or some worried owners jumping to unproven conclusions, but it certainly bears mentioning and passing along. I don’t think we can be too careful given what’s going on with the Menu Foods wet food products.
I really look forward to posting happier things here. I have one bit of cheery news for you - I’ve got two foster kittens arriving tomorrow, and they’ll be one day old. If nothing else, I promise lots of cute kitten photos in the upcoming weeks.
Well I just found out that my 1 year old cat died from eating cat food. This upsets me so much. My cat had never tried wet cat food in his life and than I though as a treat he would enjoy some wet cat food. So I went to my local Price Choppers and bought a pouch of cat food and he seemed ok then I woke up the next morning and he could not move so I said I will drop my son off at school and then rush the cat to the vet immediatly. By the time I got home from dropping my son off My Max was already gone. I never thought to get an autopsy done I just go him cremated and that was it. I never thought it would have been the food I feed my baby for the first time that would have ripped him away from me. Fortunatly my other two cats never had a chance to eat the food because they are both to little for wet cat food. I miss my Max soooooooo much and so do my children. My youngest doesn’t understand that he is gone forever she keeps asking when is Maxie Baby coming home. And because I did not get an autopsy to prove that is what killed my Cat there is nothing I can do about it.
Posted by Max's said mom... on 03/24 at 05:53 AMOn vacation in Nov. we rescued 2 beautiful Siamese kittens after seeing someone ‘leave something in woods’ My husband went over to see what it was and we adopted Bones and Moses. We fed them Special Kitty pouches~trying to put on some weight and the convience of travelling with them. On returning home we took them to our vet for a check up and discovered they were in kidney failure. They died within a week of each other. It was heartbreaking. Anyway, on the trip we heard about a recall of Beneful dry dog food which is what we were feeding our dog back home.I immediately stopped that food~heard it was mold in the bags and several dogs had died in Texas. Having never heard anymore about the recall; when I talked to the FDA about the kittens I asked about the dry dog food and they had NO REPORT from Purina about it! They are ‘investigating’ with Purina.I am at wits end about feeding our cat and dog.I NEVER want to go thru ANYTHING like this again.I went to the feed store and bought some holistic foods but just WHEN is something to be recalled regarding this food??? It is like waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Posted by calsifer on 03/24 at 11:25 PMHi leigh ann,
I’l share my solution to your food deliema?
im buying InNova Evo food. the dry is P protein.
the stuffs so rich in nutrition you can feed ,ready? raw meats ! (or boiled ,whichever)
the best quality food available. you don’t need
any canned food.. for those who are nearly in
debter’s prison(myself). try Chickensoup for cat lovers soul , or there dog varitey? all totally
natural, no presevitaves no wheat (or nastys)
it’s a better food.. you can add a canned food
for the chicken soup foods , their’s a lot
of companys that have canned foods that’r safe.
Artemis, innova , felidae, wysong.
best wishes , JohnypaycutPosted by johnypaycut on 03/25 at 01:27 PMDrat i hate this keyboard.. the 50&#xis; 50 percent protein .. thats a lot in a dry food? it is not
involved with mediaslime balls , nor iams or any
conscript of the chinese communist party?
this stuff is really a 100 percent natural food.
it is recomended by all my animal rights
pals in upstate Ny.(woodstock) im using it now.
it’s a bit expensive but worth it? you can feed raw meats with it? NO canned food.Posted by johnypaycut on 03/25 at 01:37 PMMy Cat was sick.. sat. 17th. i was freakkin out?
i am a poor retired hippie.. so vet, thus i began
my attempt to resicute my buddy. she wouldn’t eat
vomited , no water? i used a tube an “introduced”
3cc of warm water , with Felovite 2 , a vetenary
viatamin. 3hrs later she drank , and ate a bit
i used a 2nd. dose before bed. next day the same
treament, 4days later shes eatting a little ,
and drinking water of tuna fish. day 7 ..
the cat is now eatting, active , playing ..
i believe she will be ok? fast action probably
saved her.. i am now changing my entire feed
regime to raw meats, and innova evo dry foods.
i shal use a tinic to soothe her liver, and kidneys , all these items are available on
pet food direct.comPosted by johnypaycut on 03/25 at 01:48 PMHi Johny -
I like Innova Evo, and have fed it to my cats in the past, but I generally don’t feed kibble. My cats all seem to respond best to wet food (they stay slim, and it helps keep one cat’s urinary crystals under control), so I only have kibble on hand to use for treats. I think I’ll make up one batch of the raw food listed at http://www.catinfo.org/makingcatfood.htm and see what my cats think. I doubt I’ll convince all of them to eat it, but maybe I can get the majority of them to switch over.To everyone, I’m sorry for your losses. It must be horrible, because these deaths involve a unique sense of guilt. I fed a foster kitten many of the recalled foods types (but not any of the contaminated batches), and I feel sick just thinking of how I could have killed her. When it comes down to it, none of us “killed” our pets, even if we served the offending food—it was just a terrible accident. The mourning is bad enough without blaming yourselves for something you couldn’t prevent. We all just do the best we can.
Posted by Leigh-Ann on 03/26 at 01:58 AMJust talked to the lawyer of one of the Class Action Suit.(Jay Edelson @ 888-325-4652) I asked him about Menufoods paying the vet bills (according to their website). He said he feels it is more of a publicity thing and that he would be VERY surprised if someone does contact us.He said there is sooo many people/pets involved. He advised against signing any kind of release and he would be more than happy to talk to them for me or I can talk to them if they should call.
He did say Menufoods have a few more weeks to answer the Class Action complaint and then there will be wrangling over the judge who should preside. He also said there will be more allegations as to WHEN the co. knew about the problem and didn’t recall the products and a few more allegegations we didn’t get into.
He said there will be more defendants added to the suit. They will be adding a website for information on the Class Action Suit in a week or two to follow the progress.Posted by Diane Cochrane on 03/26 at 10:24 AM
