Who’s a cutie-wootie-sweetie-snoogums-pie?

Esme, that’s who.  Go say hi to Helly and Alan’s teeny new furbaby!

On a related note, we almost ended up with a new furkid of our own yesterday because Flippy left me unsupervised on the Best Friends website.  That led to me seeing an announcement about an 8 month old Anatolian shepherd in a kill-shelter in Texas, so I wrote and offered to foster if the rescue group could get the dog here.  They could, but had already found a foster home for the dog.  Whew!  Dante almost had a 100 lb. baby sister.

  1. I made the mistake of allowing Lori to stop into the doggy daycare place by herself the other day.  She came home “demanding, for her Birthday” the puppy she saw.  He’s an adorable Am. Bulldog, like Cleo, who has a leg deformity.  Since he can’t be bred or shown, they’re looking for a good home.  We’ve talked to the Daycare owner and she’s having the leg checked out to see what’s really up with it and what it will entail to try and remedy it to the best extent possible.  We’re hoping it’s just a matter of a brace to correct the growth plate. He’s 5 months old and probably even more laid back than Cleo.

Of course, I could have said “NO”.  Gah, I’m such a pushover.

  2. Lynda, the breeder, keeps e-mailing me cute puppy pix of who’s available.  THEN, she started lowering the price if I’d take one because she has 3 expectant mothers ready to give birth literally any moment now.  Total cuteness PLUS a bargain?  How could I resist?  I kinda wish you’d gotten the Anatolian, though. :-)

  3. Oh please, Leigh-Ann actually summoned up tears for wanting to get Dante.  How could I say no???  I’m a sucker for tears…and making them stop.  “Sure, baby, whatever you want.”

I hope the Am. Bulldog’s leg turns out to be a minor condition.  Dante comes from championship lines (his immediate relatives have won at Westminster more than once), but Dante had a hernia, so wasn’t showable (and someone sewed one of his ears over to make sure he couldn’t be shown) and ended up dumped at a pet store, and we never ended up finding out why.  It’s a big secret in the Anatolian world - totally weird.  Once we tracked down where he came from, everyone’s lips were zipped and they refused to talk to us.

I hope Cleo gets a new pal her size and that he doesn’t cost any more in vet bills than the average dog.  Cleo seems pretty awesome, so I can imagine how much Lori wants the new pooch.
